Auditions for Urinetown

Open auditions for a summer musical production Urinetown will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 1 to 4 pm; Monday, May 13 from 6 to 8 pm; and Wednesday, May 15 from 6 to 8 pm. 2019 will be a celebration of ten years of Fridley Community Theatre.All auditions will be held at the Fridley Community Center, 6085 7th Street NE, Fridley, MN.

Actors will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

We do accept video submissions for those that cannot make auditions due to being away at college, etc. Please email auditions@fridleycommunitytheatre.org if interested in sending in a video submission.

Sides will be made available at auditions. Be prepared to dance a short routine that you will be taught during the audition process. Come dressed to move. Do not wear flip flops. Everyone should arrive warmed up vocally, with one minute of prepared music that best demonstrates your vocal range, skill and quality. Bring two copies of your music.

Headshots/resumes accepted, but not required. A photo will be taken at the time of auditions.

Please come with a list of all conflicts in your schedule from May 15 to July 27.

Actors of all experience levels and abilities are encouraged to audition. Diversity is encouraged. There are no speaking roles for individuals that are younger than high school age. No roles are paid.

Rehearsals

The rehearsal schedule will be based upon conflicts of the acting company. Most rehearsals will be held Monday through Friday, 6:30-9:00 pm beginning as early as May 21st.There will be 3 to 5 rehearsals a week. With frequency increasing as the performance approaches. Weekend days maybe added, based upon needs of the production and availability of the cast. All actors will not be required at all rehearsals. A detailed schedule will be available at the first rehearsal.

Performances:

July 19,20,25,26 at 7 pm. July 27 at 2 pm. All rehearsals and performances take place at Fridley District Auditorium, 6000 West Moore Lake Drive, Fridley MN.

Officer Lockstock

The tongue-in-cheek narrator of our story, a corrupt policeman who secretly kills off the guilty offenders. Bold, brash, and larger than life in many ways.

Penelope Pennywise

The tough, jaded warden of the poorest, filthiest town urinal. She is Cladwell’s one-time lover and mother to Hope who eventually softens her temper.

Bobby Strong

The dashing, rebellious everyman who works for Miss Pennywise at the poorest, filthiest town urinal. He becomes an unsuspecting protagonist and romantic hero when he starts a revolution and falls in love with Hope Cladwell.

Little Sally

A precocious and irreverent street urchin. She serves as a quasi-narrator who often questions Lockstock and the play’s logic.

Head of Research and Development at UGC.

Mr. Mcqueen

Cladwell’s sycophantic lackey. A servile assistant.

Senator Fipp

A greedy politician in Cladwell’s pocket. A bumbling coward.

Officer Barrel

Lockstock’s patrol partner. A thuggish and aggressive policeman.

Hope Cladwell

Cladwell’s ravishingly beautiful daughter, torn between her father and her new love for Bobby. She begins as an innocent, naive angel but becomes vengeful and determined after being exposed to her father’s evil.

Joseph “old Man” Strong

Bobby’s rebellious father. His refusal to pay the fee sends him to Urinetown, ultimately launching the revolution.

Tiny Tom

One of the Poor, he is an idiotic man-child.

Soupy Sue

One of the Poor, she is excitable and easily panicked.

Little Becky Two-shoes

One of the Poor. She is foul-mouthed, impulsive, and accusatory.

Caldwell B. Cladwell

The evil president and owner of the Urine Good Company. He is a miserly money-grubber who gleefully exploits the poor.

Josephine “ma” Strong

Bobby’s mother and Joseph’s wife. A strong-willed woman with a bite, able to withstand the hard hand life has dealt her.

Hot Blades Harry

One of the Poor, he is a psychopathic and can become a violent loose cannon.
