Auditions for California Suite

Fridley Community Theater is excited to announce auditions for California Suite by Neil Simon. Auditions will be held Wednesday, December 1st from 6:30-8:30pm and Saturday, December 4th from 11am to 2:00pm At the Fridley Community Center 6085 7th St NE, Fridley, MN 55432

The production will be directed by Andrew Nawrocki. Auditions will consist of reading sides from the script, so come as prepared or unprepared as you like!

Headshots/resumes are accepted but not necessary. A photo will be taken at the time of the audition.

Actors of all experiences and abilities are encouraged. Diversity is encouraged.

California Suite is a collection of four scenes involving different characters, but taking place in the same hotel suite. We are looking to cast from 5 to 10 actors for the following roles:

Scene 1:

  • Hannah Warren: 40s/50s tough New York writer, bitter-ish divorcee and mother
  • William Warren: 40s/50 California transplant, film writer and divorced dad

Scene 2:

  • Marvin Michaels: 30s-40s man in a hung-over panic
  • Millie Michaels: 30s-40s woman exhausted from travelling
  • Bunny: ageless, passed out woman (non-speaking, all physical) likely to be double cast with another role

 Scene 3:

  • Sidney Nichols: 40s-50s British, bisexual former actor/antique dealer
  • Diana Nichols: 40s-50s fading British actress, beautiful, cranky

Scene 4:

  • Mort Hollender: 30s-50s man who is fed up with his friends
  • Beth Hollender: 30s-50s Mort’s wife, who is injured and hungry
  • Stu Franklin: 30s-50s man who is fed up with his vacation
  • Very Franklin: 30s-50s woman who is clumsy, but well meaning
  • Note: Scene 4 has a lot of physical comedy

Depending on turn out for auditions, actors may be cast in more than one role.

First rehearsal/table read will be before Christmas/New Years and rehearsals will begin on January 3rd and be weekday evenings 6:30 to 9:00 pm

Performances will be at the Fridley District Auditorium, 6000 W Moore Lake Dr NE, Fridley, MN 55432 February 11, 12, 18, 19 at 7pm with an additional matinee also on February 19 at 2pm.

All roles are unpaid.
