Sister Act Auditions

Artistic Direction by Michelle Schwantes, Vocal Directtion by Nikki Zeleny, Choreography by Rachel Cathey

Open auditions for a summer musical production of Sister Act will be held on Saturday, April 28 and Sunday April 29 from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. Auditions on Monday, April 30 from 6-8 pm will be scheduled through Sign-Up Genius. All auditions will take place at Stevenson Elementary School, 6080 East River Road, Fridley MN. Callbacks if needed will be held on Monday. April 30 from 8-10 pm. You will be contacted if your presence is required for callbacks. Enter through Door #3.

Actors will be seen in a first-come, first-served fashion on Saturday and Sunday. Sign up Genius will be used on Monday to ensure that there is time for any needed callbacks. There will be 24 slots available on the 30th. Non-scheduled auditions will not be available on the 30th. If you are unable to get a slot on the 30th, please come to the open auditions on the 28th & 29th and be available for call backs on the 30th beginning at 8 pm.

We do accept video submissions for those that cannot make auditions due to being away at college, etc. Please email auditions@fridleycommunitytheatre.org if interested in sending in a video submission.

Sides will be made available at auditions. Please prepare 16 measures of music to be sung a cappella that showcases your voice, or the part you desire. Come dressed to move as you will be taught a short dance routine. Headshots/resumes accepted, but not required. A photo will be taken at the time of auditions. Please come with a list of all conflicts in your schedule from May 23rd to July 28th.

Actors of all experience levels are encouraged, as are actors of all abilities. Diversity is encouraged. There are no roles for individuals that are younger than high school age.

There will be a meet and greet with the production staff and cast on May 23rd from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.

Rehearsals

Will be held Monday through Friday, 6:30-9:30 pm beginning May 29th.
Rehearsals 6-10 starting July 16.
A weekend day may be added, based upon needs of the production, closer to time of performance.
All actors will not be required at all rehearsals. A detailed schedule will be available at the Meet and Greet.

Performances:

July 20, 21, 26, 27 at 7 pm. July 28 at 2 pm.
All rehearsals and performances take place at Fridley District Auditorium, 6000 West Moore Lake Drive, Fridley MN.

Deloris Van Cartier
An aspiring performer, trying to find both fame and a place in the world. When forced to hide in the convent, she initially refuses to embrace her new lifestyle but learns to embrace it when she works with the choir. Loud-mouthed, and sassy, but ultimately caring.

Mother Superior
The head of the convent, sarcastic and a bit stiff. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings.

Sister Mary Robert
A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and soft-spoken, but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life.

Sister Mary Patrick
A nun of the convent. Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable.

Sister Mary Lazarus
A nun of the convent and the head of the choir. Rather deadpan and the least welcoming of any of the nuns, but she gets caught up in Deloris’s soul music.

Monsignor O’Hara
One of the heads of the convent. Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood.

Curtis
A club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris’s boyfriend. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence.

Eddie Souther
The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. He still yearns for Deloris after all these years, and dreams of being her hero.

Tj
Curtis’s nephew and one of his thugs. Deft and cognizant of the fact, constantly in a state of ignorant bliss.

One of Curtis’s thugs. Believes himself to be quite the ladies’ man.

Sister Mary Martin-of-tours
A nun of the convent. Clearly in her own world, but has her moments of surprising clarity.

Sister Mary Theresa
A nun of the convent, the oldest of the group. Decrepit at a glance, but secretly packs a punch.

Age: 60 to 70

Michelle
One of Deloris’s back-up singers. Lippy and always quick with a retort.
